The Cultural Olympiad
We think by now that you will have heard that
the Olympics and Paralympic Games are coming to London in 2012. You
may also know all about the amazing talent that will compete for
honour in the true spirit of the games. What you may not know
though is that London’s Olympic Authority will be running a
Cultural Olympiad in tandem with the games.
This unprecedented opportunity allows
everybody access to more than just the sports. It gives you, each
and every member of the public, the possibility of immersing
yourself in all that’s great about the British and Global arts
communities.
Let theatre companies such as The Iraqi
Theatre Company show you Romeo and Juliet set amidst the backdrop
of War Torn Baghdad. Or, why not pop along to the banks of the
Thames to watch musicians from around the World perform on giant
stages erected to give the river a musical heart. This visual,
audible and sense tingling feast of culture promises to be a fun,
moving and extraordinary series of events that will guarantee to
appeal to everybody’s tastes.
Hotel Russell is perfectly situated if you are
lucky enough to go the games themselves. Five minutes up the road
and you will find yourself in St.Pancras where you can get the new
high speed Javelin train to Stratford. It only takes 7 minutes. We
even like the name of the train.
